Dear DanHOG,

I write to you to today to share some incredible news. For the past two years we have been researching and planning ways to undertake a significant upgrade to the Very Special Kids Hospice.  Our hope and goal has been to ensure we can continue to provide the highest level of care and support for our children with life-threatening conditions and their families now and into the future

After much consideration we have decided to undertake a redevelopment to improve our children’s hospice. When we shared this exciting hope for the future, the Coalition Government saw our need, and generously committed to provide a $7.5 million Commonwealth grant to undertake the first phase of the upgrade.

The grant will help build a world-class hospice with state-of-the-art and best practice clinical facilities to better support children of every age, size, nationality and functional capability. The facility will offer more specialised services for children as well as a semi-private space for adolescents to better respect their maturity and desire for independence. There will be a dedicated area for end-of-life care to allow for greater privacy and space to respectfully support a family’s final wishes for their child.

We wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for your generous support. You have helped create a difference in the lives of children and their families year on year.

This project represents the single most important service improvement in the history of the hospice and secures our future growth.

However, we continue to rely heavily on ongoing community support to continue to provide our free of charge respite, family support and end-of-life care for the children and families currently in our care.

We look forward to sharing share more details about our plans and hopes for this exciting new chapter and highlight how your donations continue to make everything we do today possible.

We simply would not be here without you.

Thank you,

Michael Wasley CEO
